Softball for a trip to Seoul

Well, I took up a sport that I haven’t played since I was 13 or so–baseball. Not exactly baseball, but softball. It has most of the same skill sets, but some subtle differences in rules and game play. I played on the base team in the most recent tournament we had on base. Teams came from around Korea, Army and Airforce teams. There were also some Korean teams, Republic of Korea Naval Academy and ROK Marines. We beat one of the Korean teams but lost to the two American teams. We had only been together about 2-3 weeks, so needless to say we weren’t that good.

Now we have been practicing about 3 times a week and are much better. We have been entered in a huge tournament in Seoul and the base is paying our way. Four days in Seoul should be a lot of fun. It is over our anniversary weekend so we are trying to get Dayspring a place to stay other than open bay barracks, tough as most rooms are sold out. I am sure it will work out. The tourney is huge, they play 24 hours a day on like 6 fields. I just hope we can win a couple games and not get too embarassed. I am now playing between picther and second base. Wish us luck!!–Ryan Wink

Can you hear me now?

To all of those who love us–please read below, to those of you who don’t–please disregard.

We have been living in a foreign country far away from our friends and family for 9 months and are starving for some interaction. We started this blog to keep those of you who love us updated on our lives and it has been really fun. I think we sparked a revolution with some of our friends and family as many other blogs started popping up. It seems that many of you look at our blog on a regular basis, but there is no way for us to know for sure as no comments are posted. So, this is a call to all of you to start leaving comments, email us, Skype us or call us. Dayspring is resigning from her job at EOS and we will be losing our VOIP phone, which means no more free calls to the 1-800 number or from us for free. We have been using a calling card to make calls for a few months. We can even provide you with the 15 digit or so number you need to dial to call us. I am sure that your fingers will not get too tired if you call us, you might even build up some endurance if you do it on a regular basis. We encouraged many of you to get webcams so that we could call and see each other for free on Skype. A webcam might cost $30, pretty cheap. Even if you don’t have a webcam you can make free internet calls on Skype, check it out!! We can give you our Skype name and you can call us.

So in conclusion, if you are looking at our blog, PLEASE leave a comment Smile !! If you are thinking about us call us or Skype us, just remember we are 13 hours ahead of EST. If you want to see us, buy a webcam and call us on Skype. We are asking this nicely as we miss all of you!! Thanks!! —Ryan Wink

Pregnancy Update:-)

Baby on board!!!

Hey all, just a quick update on Day’s pregnancy. She is almost 24 weeks and her due date is August 21. We are starting on the baby’s room and storing all of the clothes we have for him already. We just went to the doctor’s office this week, Dr. Jo, and we got our formal full check up ultrasound. They check all the anatomy of the baby and see if everything is alright, and it was all perfect. They also confirmed that he definitely is a HE!! Smile The ultrasound was brand new and definitely the best machine I have ever seen. They did some 3-D pictures for us and it looked so real!!! Day and I were laughing out loud really loud Laughing after we saw his face so well below. We think he is already really handsome, but see for yourself.

Meet our little guy! 3-D ultrasound done at 23 weeks

Day is doing well with pregnancy and as you can see her belly is growing every day. She is taking all the challenges and changes in stride. We just hope and pray that it continues to go as easily and healthily as it has so far. We’ll keep you updated.–Ryan Wink

We got to see Trayers!

One of Ryan’s best friends from Pendleton was in the area recently! We were hoping to see Fred prior to our trip to the States, but when that didn’t work out we were bummed. Then it just so happened that he had some extra time and he was back in the area. We drove to Pusan about 45 minutes away, (which was the first time we’ve driven there by ourselves). We had dinner at a GREAT chicken place that “had pictures”… Ryan and I used our “restaurant language” and got by pretty well.

The Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom- absolutely stunning!

Chinhae is known for it’s Cherry Blossom Festival every Spring and it is a sight to be seen. There are thousands are Cherry Blossom Trees covering the hillside and lining the streets. The streets on our base are also lined with beautiful Cherry Blossom Trees.

It’s hard to believe we’ve been here for 8 months already! Time sure does go by quickly when you are having fun.
