We did some jarring!

We decided to give homemade gifts to our friends on base and since they all rave about my salsa (wow, I’m sooooo humble- I have to attribute the secret recipe to my daddy), we came up with the idea of putting it in jars. After I made the salsa Ryan ended up doing all of the work putting it in the jars and pasturizing it.

Despite the warning that we gave people about it being our first experience at jarring, The CSO and his wife Edna said that it was deliciousSmile Oh, and Chaps and his family liked it too.

A 10 Mile Hike?!

Ryan and I went on a 10 mile hike on Saturday.  It was amazing, thrilling and terrifying all at the same time.  The view from the top was amazing!  We could see Chinhae, Masan and Changwon, the cities that we live by.  The weather was perfect for a day of hiking- cool and cloudy.  You can see part of the city and the surrounding islands in the picture below.

Labor Day Weekend

September 5, 2006–0850. Day and I are up in the AM on our last of four straight days off!!! I can’t remember the last time that happened. It has been very relaxing. We went out into town on Friday looking for sushi, and we came up with some disappointment. The sushi joint we tried, was suggested by a friend whose Japanese friends liked it. It was not like the sushi we are used to. The main raw fish was flounder, and there were many snail/molluscs featured. Needless to say it was OK, but we probably won’t go back. It was difficult to order as the waitress did not speak English, and we were constantly guessing as to what exactly we were eating as they brought dish after dish. The workers were very nice though. Saturday was uneventful. Sunday we saw Da Vinci Code for free on base, really good movie. Makes me want to learn more about the history of the Bible/Jesus etc. So, I started a new book–The Case For Christ. Pretty interesting so far. Sunday Day and I went on a long bike ride on the ROK (Republic of Korea) Navy base. That was awesome–Day did a great job. She rode over gravel and was super good on the bike. I hope to do that more, maybe we will be bikers together. Monday there was a Labor Day party on base. We started with a 5K run on base–I got second, wanted first cause I would’ve won a camelbak. Then there was a Luau with pig roast and all. That was fun!!! We had to cut our party day short as we had to rush to our second appointment with a respected Korean doctor for IVF. He speaks pretty good English, so we are able to communicate well. He is giving us a discount as I am here serving as a physician in his country. He is very nice and has great bedside manner. As we drove to and from the appointment we laughed out loud as to what an adventure we are already having in Korea!!! So much fun. Well, until later. Ryan
